Breakfast at 6am before my dads head off to work. I then guard the house all day with two eyes shut. At 3 o’clock my daddy comes home to give me a belly rub, and then I have a bully stick to tie me over to park time at 5 o’clock. Then its another sleep before dinner, and movie time on the couch.
You have an amazing second Instagram account in @ollydayz. What inspired you to create this account and what has been your favourite day of the year so far?
My dad is very creative, and was originally going to do a series of photos based on record covers. Somehow the idea of celebrating different days of the year came up, and after a bit of digging around on the internet, found that there were multiple “special” days celebrated around the world on almost every day of the year. He later stumbled across another instagram by a drag queen named Phi Phi O’Hara, who, at the time, was presenting a different cosplay look each day. The uniformity of her daily pics inspired the separate account, Ollydayz (a take on “holidays”), so that the overall pictures formed a perfect calendar. We still use instaollygram for behind the scenes and random photos. As for favourite day, they just seem to get better and better as we roll through the year. I think Father’s Day will always be the best for me. We captured the perfect family photo for that day.
How much work goes into creating your photos for @ollydayz?
Depending on which day is selected to celebrate, it varies. Usually they don’t take too long, unless the photo requires a special shirt to match the day. Shirts take 2-4 hours to make. The actual set up of the photo is usually pretty smooth, though. My dads have quite a lot of props to use already, so it’s just a matter of finding a location, setting up the shot, and hope that I have that perfect pose for the camera. We’ve only had a couple of instances where the photo is not working, but we always get something out in the end.
What tips would you give to other pugs wanting to having an amazing Instagram feed like yours?
Focus, composition, control. Focus: If your photo isn’t in focus, then you don’t have to post it. Composition: Try to take photos of your dog down at their level. Try to find different backgrounds, there’s plenty to be found. Have a look at all the types of fences on your next walk to see what I mean. Control: Don’t post too many photos! Some insist on posting 20 photos all at once, and it is quite annoying. 1-4 posts per day is plenty enough.
