Social Pug Profile | Axl
It is that time again where you get to know a pug from the social media scene in our popular Social Pug Profile series. Meet Axl. Axl is pretty awesome. He goes running and he is quite the hero in his family. I hope you enjoy getting to know Axl as much as I do.
Name: Axl Lee
Birth date or Gotcha Date: 3/16/14
Where do you live? Raleigh, NC USA
What is your favourite time of the day?
Anytime when mom is home! We go running in the mornings, usually before she goes to work & in the evening when she gets home we snuggle on the couch.
What is your favourite food?
That’s a tough question! I love ALL food except fried pickles. If i had to pick 1 favorite it would probably be Cool Whip (especially the ‘extra creamy’)
Do you have a toy that you can’t live without?
I have several marrow bones that i have torn all the meat off of & now I bring them to bed every night to chew a little before going to sleep. I think its hilarious when dad rolls over on them in the middle of the night 😉
What do you hate the most?
I hate when mom makes me wear hats. Clothes, bandanas & bowties I don’t mind, but I don’t like to have anything on my head.
What do you love the most?
I love that I have all the qualities to be the perfect companion for both of my parents. I love running and going on adventures with mom, but i also love lounging and going on car rides with dad. I am perfect for both of them!
Do you have any bad habits?
According to mom, I aggravate her when I bite her feet (even though I’m just playing!!). According to dad, I aggravate him when I bark & jump at the tv when i see dogs, cows or horses. They think I was born on a farm & maybe had some sort of bad barnyard experience! And I aggravate my 2 cats all the time by chasing them around the house and trying to bite their tails!
What do you think is your best quality?
My best quality is that I am very easy-going and enjoy life wherever it takes me. I find a way to have fun and be content in any situation.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Mom wakes me up around 4:45 or 5 am and we get ready to go outside. Depending on her shoes, I can tell whether we are going for a 15 minute stroll around the neighborhood or if we are going for a run. When we run, we usually go for 30-40 minutes and often go to the lake behind our house. When we get home, I eat breakfast and then crawl back into bed with dad after mom leaves for work. While she is gone, I hang out with dad all day, which usually involves sleeping, car rides, the Starbucks drive-thru, and working on our house….well usually dad does all the work while I watch! Surprisingly though, I’m not afraid of any of his tools…. I can sleep right through the nailing, sawing, hammering, you name it! All i care about is being close to him 🙂 Mom gets home in the evening and we eat dinner. I eat mine first and then i polish off dad’s dinner when he’s done. Mom loves sweets after dinner & she always gives me a big scoop of cool whip. We take a quick neighborhood walk before bed & then we all crawl in their bed together, where i sleep under the covers next to mom.
I love that you are an adventure pug. What is your favourite adventure that you have been on so far?
Most of my adventures involve the lake behind our house. I get to run through mud, chase geese, play in the water, splash in the creek and run free. I love it even more when my best friend Gwen comes over and we do that all together! I also enjoy going to a bigger lake where we actually swim and float on rafts. I am quite a strong swimmer and I prefer to swim without a life jacket (mom is always close, dont worry!). I love the water year-round and jump in the lake every chance i get!
I see that you love going on runs with your mum. Do you have a training regime to keep fit for runs with your mum?
I started running with her when I was about 6 months old. She was training for a marathon and would take me along for 3-6 mile training runs. I dont have a specific training regimen but i can only run when its cool outside, so i swim in the summer to stay fit. I also wrestle with my 2 cats to stay in shape when I cant run. I have done 1 actual 5k race with mom and finished in 32 minutes! We usually run a little over a 10 minute mile.
Where can we follow your daily adventures?

Axl is somewhat of a hero in his family. Check out Axl’s wonderful hero story as told by his mum.
My husband is a type 1 diabetic & had a low blood sugar incident a few weeks ago. It happened while we were all asleep. Axl must have noticed that something was wrong, so he started barking and whining to wake me up. As soon as i woke up, i realized his sugar was low and he was completely unresponsive, so after some frantic efforts to help him by myself, i called 911. Axl stayed calm and by his side throughout the entire incident, as i was running around like crazy (Axl is under my feet 99% of the time!). As it turned out, his blood sugar was 19, (normal fasting is 80-120) and if Axl wouldn’t have woken me up, he may not have survived. Axl is definitely our hero!
I hope you have enjoyed getting to know Axl in this Social Pug Profile interview and be sure to leave a pug love note for him in the comments below.
