Everyone loves reading the Social Pug Profile interviews with pugs from the social media scene. Well now it is time to put the pug parents in the spotlight to answer some questions about what it is like to own a pug in the Pug Parent Profile. Get to know the humans behind the pugs you love and pick up a tip or two for life with your pug. This week we are getting to know the human of Punky, The Tiffen Family.

Name: The Tiffen Family

Where do you live? Canberra, Australia

How many pugs do you own?
1… but we started a pug meet in our area so she has 50+ other Canberra pugs to play with each month.

What is her name? Punky

Is your current pug/s your first?
Yes. We used to be Staffy people. We still are actually but Pugs are a great, smaller + less active compromise.

Do you think your pugs personality matches yours?
I guess so. She’s funny, hungry and determined like us… she also loves to laze around, watch Netflix and chill.

What did you expect a pug to be like before you got one?
We thought she’d be like a cat.

What was different to your expectation once you got a pug?
We didn’t think she’d be a ball chaser, but she does love to play with balls and other running games. Everyone told us that we’d have pug hair everywhere –but to be honest, it’s not that bad. I believe the blonde pugs are much more of a problem with shedding.

What would be your number 1 tip for new pug parents?
Our youngest had a dummy when Punky came into our lives. Punky lurved the dummy to chew. It was one of those big cherry shaped ones. I’d consider buying my next puppy one of these! We also are a big fan of create training. Punky is now 2+ years and still choses to nap in her own create rather than our human beds.

What do you hate most about having a pug?
That there is only one of her. The kids fight over her. We literally need 5 more pugs!

What do you love most about having a pug?
It sounds bad, but I as the mum love that she sleeps so much. When the kids are at school, I love that she just wants to lay by my feet and she’s not destructive or hard work physically.

What has been your biggest fear about owning a pug?
Her googly eyes might pop out of her head when she sneezes! Also she sometimes makes this weird breathing noise from time to time that makes me think she is having some sort of asthma attack, but apparently this is normal. I’ve also worried that someone would steal her…. we can’t walk very far without someone stopping and gushing over her.

Have you experienced any of the typical pug health problems? If so, how have you overcome them? If not, what precautions have you taken to prevent health problems?
We had her desexed {we wish we hadn’t now, but a pug on heat isn’t that much fun}. At the same time, we got her a small nose job. They took a thin slice from each nostril to broaden her airways. We also had her dewclaws removed because those nails got super long and used to scratch the kids and her own buggy eyeballs.

Why did you choose to start a social media account for your pug/s?
Because we took so many photos of her and we didn’t want to bombard our friends. Pug people are all awesomely weird and we wanted to connect with the pug cult 🙂
