Everyone loves reading the Social Pug Profile interviews with pugs from the social media scene. Well now it is time to put the pug parents in the spotlight to answer some questions about what it is like to own a pug in the Pug Parent Profile. Get to know the humans behind the pugs you love and pick up a tip or two for life with your pug. This week we are getting to know the human of Gwen, Nikki.
Where do you live? Raleigh, NC (USA)
How many pugs do you own?
One at at time (my husband’s rule, he knows we will have pugs for the rest of our lives but his only request was only one pug at a time)
What are their names? Gwen
Is your current pug/s your first?
No, we had a little boy named Raskal before Gwen, he was with us for 7 years before he passed away, and of course my mom got Uncle Rocky which began our love affair with black pugs.
Do you think your pugs personality matches yours?
Sometimes I think so, my brother actually picked out Gwen and got her. He said that he picked her because she was crazy like me, haha.
What did you expect a pug to be like before you got one?
Little balls of love and snorts.
What was different to your expectation once you got a pug?
How much energy they have!
What would be your number 1 tip for new pug parents?
Do a little bit of obedience training, a few commands go a long way, especially recall (such as ‘come’) or ‘leave it’ can save you a lot of headaches in the future.
What do you hate most about having a pug?
The shedding, we try to brush Gwen once a week outside to cut down on the hair inside our house.
What do you love most about having a pug?
Their little personalities.
What has been your biggest fear about owning a pug?
Snoring so loud it would wake us up! Raskal had to sleep in the living room because he snored so loud. Gwen has little lady snores.
Have you experienced any of the typical pug health problems?
If so, how have you overcome them? If not, what precautions have you taken to prevent health problems? Nope, we have always keep our pugs in good shape with lots of exercise and healthy diet of raw.
Why did you choose to start a social media account for your pug/s?
I chose to start an Instagram account for Gwen sort of as a joke, and then we started making friends, we found the crazy pug community and it just became so much more. Then came the trips, #pugstakeDC and #pugstakeNYC where we got to meet a lot of the crazy and fun humans behind so many of our favorite accounts.
Where can we follow your pugs adventures?
On Instagram @GwentheBlackPug
I hope you enjoyed getting to meet the human of Gwen and picked up a tip or two about owning a pug.
