Pug Parent Profile | Ellie + Eric
Everyone loves reading the Social Pug Profile interviews with pugs from the social media scene. Well now it is time to put the pug parents in the spotlight to answer some questions about what it is like to own a pug in the Pug Parent Profile. Get to know the humans behind the pugs you love and pick up a tip or two for life with your pug. This week we are getting to know the humans of Tofu + Dally, Ellie + Eric.
Name: Ellie and Eric
Where do you live? Perth, Western Australia
How many pugs do you own? 2
What are their names? Tofu and Dally (aka Fu-man and Nanna)
Is your current pug/s your first?
Tofu came first as a puppy and then Dally was re-homed with us.
Do you think your pugs personality matches yours?
Tofu is the crazy one but also enjoys a good snuggle. Dally is very relaxed and quite independent. Tofu seems to be the Mummas boy whereas Dally really loves her Dad. I guess you could say that Tofu is more like myself and Dally is more like Eric.
What did you expect a pug to be like before you got one?
I didn’t really know but expected it to be a tiny ball of perfect cuteness!
What was different to your expectation once you got a pug?
Tofu, being our introduction into pug ownership, really surprised us with how much endless energy he has! From what you see in funny memes and pictures, you’re lead to believe they are all just fat and lazy!.. But, my gosh is that wrong!! They’re so full of energy!
What would be your number 1 tip for new pug parents?
Do your research before adopting / buying a pug (or any breed for that matter). Make sure you read about the common health issues and know the costs involved if something were to go wrong.
What do you hate most about having a pug?
I wouldn’t say it’s quite a hate, but nothing can prepare you for how much they will moult! We recommend a robot vacuum cleaner to help out between big vacuums!
What do you love most about having a pug?
How completely loyal and loving they are. They will become your shadow and never leave your side. Also how funny they are. Just looking at their sweet squishy faces will make anyone smile!
What has been your biggest fear about owning a pug?
Losing them. Whether it be them running away on a walk or getting stolen etc. We just couldn’t even imagine the stress of not knowing where our babies are and if they’re okay.
Have you experienced any of the typical pug health problems? If so, how have you overcome them? If not, what precautions have you taken to prevent health problems?
Yes, we have. Tofu suffered with an eye ulcer which, despite administering the prescribed eye drops and ointments, still required surgery. You have to take extra special care of those big boggley eyes! Keep them clean and lubricated. We haven’t had any issues with heat stroke but we are very careful to keep them cool and not walk them during the hottest times of the day. We always have the air conditioner on inside in Summer. Squishy face dogs have a tough time keeping cool.
Why did you choose to start a social media account for your pug/s?
Before owning a pug I followed many other animal accounts on Instagram and already knew I wanted to share our future baby with the world and make people everywhere smile just as the animals on the accounts I followed did for me. I think it was also a good idea to keep the pug stuff separate so that our family and friends wouldn’t get frustrated with our constant puggy spam clogging their social media feeds.
