A Pooch Affair 2016 in Review

It is not every day that you get to enjoy a day out with your dog. So when you do, you just have to make the most of it. And choosing one that is not only enjoyable for your dog but also for yourself is a must. And A Pooch Affair ticks all of the boxes for both myself and Ref.

Saturday 30th July 2016 saw the 2nd annual doggie day out hit Canberra’s Exhibition Park. And this year it was even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event. And whilst it was bigger and better, the things that made it stand out as one of the best dog events I have been to were all there and as great as last year. There was the the Doggie Mall filled with so many great businesses from both Canberra and Sydney, the Doggie Day Spa, Doggie Diner & Cafe, Doggie Bookshop, demonstrations, agility and loads more.

Pug Hour

This year’s pug hour saw a good 30 pugs having some fun in the play hour arena. It was so much fun watching how all of the pugs interacted with each. There was plenty of checking each other out but it took a little bit before you saw the classic pug zoomies take centre stage. And the pugs that joined in looked to be having a super fun time and would have definitely slept well that evening.

High Tea

This year’s high tea was a highlight for me again. With the mad hatter’s tea party theme, there were some great outfits for both the dogs and the humans. I was pretty excited that Ref won the best dressed dog at the first high tea session. Ref won a showbag full of treats and a caricature too. But whilst that was exciting, getting to sit down to a nice morning tea with my favourite little dude and my mum was just great. The human spread of food was huge and delicious but the doggie food was even better. There was a nice little range of biscuits and treats for Ref to indulge on and the puppucino was an absolute hit with him. And the great thing was each dog got a take humbug of treats so they can continue the treat indulging when they got home. With the dogs sitting at the table for their high tea meal, it looked great and that the dogs all had a wonderful time. This is what A Pooch Affair is all about.

This year’s A Pooch Affair was another great doggie day out. I can only imagine how it will grow to be even bigger and better in 2017. Definitely an event to bookmark. And if you are wanting to experience this awesome event and you live in Sydney, you will be happy to know there are some great pet friendly options to make a weekend away for A Pooch Affair. This year, we stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Canberra which has 2 pet friendly rooms. But that’s a story for another day.

If you went along to A Pooch Affair this year, what was your favourite part of the day? Leave a comment below telling everyone what you loved about the event. I loved the high tea and getting to meet some readers and new people throughout the day as well as catch up with those friends we made whilst at A Pooch Affair last year.
