I love spending time with my pugs whether it’s having some play time in the backyard or heading out on an adventure. But it is difficult to entertain pugs indoors on a rainy day especially when they are rather active pugs. Coming up with fun and safe rainy day activities for your pug can be easy as these 7 ideas.
Food puzzles are a great way to keep your pug occupied and at the same time provide them with enrichment activity. With pugs being so food motivated, they will love a food puzzle. Just pop some of their favourite treats in the puzzle and let them work out how to get the treats out.
There are many good puzzles on the market and they can be quite expensive. I love this one I picked up from K-Mart for just $9.00. If you can’t find a reasonably priced why then make your own. Grab a muffin tin and some tennis balls and you’ll have your own food puzzle in no time. Pop those treats in the muffin tin and place the tennis balls on top to make your pug work for their treats keeping them entertained on a rainy day.
Play indoor games
If you have a pug who loves to play games but you usually head outdoors for it then finding some fun and safe games to play indoors is the way to go. Tug-o-war would have to be the easiest game to play indoors. And if you have some space, even a fun game of fetch can be on the cards.
Having an automatic fetch device like the iFetch is a great way to provide your pug with hours of fetch whilst you do other activities around the house. Or if you are keen, perhaps you could make your own tug-o-war toy before you have some play time with your pug.
Have a mini photo session
A fun indoor activity is to have a mini photo session with your pug. Whilst you are both relaxed, you can capture some of those every day moments and details that you love so much about your pug. Or you can try for something a bit more fun and include some props. Either way, it’ll be fun to have some photos of your pug at home. Check out these tips for taking photos indoors.
Learn some new tricks
A perfect rainy day actitivy would be to teach your pug a new trick or two. It’ll be fun to teach them to high five or shake. It will provide them with great mental stimulation and help build your bond further. If you prefer, you can teach them some other basic commands like drop, come and leave it. Either way, it is a great way to spend some time inside on a rainy day.

Make some treats
Now what pug would love to have some home made treats?!? I know mine do. So why not make the most of being couped up inside and make your pug some delicious home made treats. There are some easy no bake options or if you are keen, try your hand at making some mint carob cookies or banana pupcakes. Any treat you make yourself will be loved by your pug. If your making something fun like Rocky Puggy Road, maybe even let your pug lick the spoon.
Make an indoor obstacle course
Grab some stuff from around the home that is pug safe and create an obstacle course around the house. If you have a kids pay tunnel, pull that out too. Have some pillows to jump over, a tunnel to go through and some toys to weave around. Pull out the treats and teach them to go around the obstacle course. A fun activity for indoors.
Fill up a treat ball
If you like to have a range of different enrichment activities available for your pug then I’m sure you have a treat dispensing device that would be perfect for entertaining your pug on a wet miserable day. Grab your pug’s favourite treat ball and load it with healthy treats. Your pug will be entartained for ages. And they will get some exercise in as they move around the house trying to get the treats out of the ball.
I have a few different treat dispensing toys on hand for Ref to play with. I usually fill one with some carrot and let me him enjoy getting the treats out. His favourite is definitely the Kong Wobbler.
With plenty of ideas to keep your pug entertained, you’re sure to have some fun on those rainy days when you’re couped up inside. And if none of those suit, grab a movie and a blanket and snuggle on the couch.
